Clearwater National Forest and Nez Perce National Forest meet in this high-altitude wilderness, defined by the rugged interface of two massive protected lands. The landscape is oriented around the Elk Summit settlement, a focal point for the mountain access routes of Hoodoo Lake Rd and Elk Summit Rd. The drainage network is complex, with the E Fork Moose Cr carving through the southern section while numerous alpine water bodies like Hoodoo Lake and Porphyry Lake dot the higher elevations.
