Caldwell sits in the northern reaches of Phillips County, just south of the international border with the United States of America. This landscape is defined by the drainage of Woody Island Creek, which flows through the southern portion of the quadrangle. The terrain transitions from the open plains of the north to the more defined topography of the Woody Island Coulee.
