Charlotte Court House serves as the focal point of this south-central Virginia landscape, where the road network converges at the county seat amid a complex system of creeks and branches. The terrain is defined by the headwaters of the Roanoke River and the meandering course of Wards Fork Creek, which flows south toward the Roanoke Creek Number 35a Dam. Local history is preserved in several small family and community burial grounds, including the Evergreen Cemetery and Gillispie Cemetery, scattered among the rural holdings.
