Chester Lyons Spring and the eastern slopes of the Hog Ranch Mountains anchor this high-desert landscape in Washoe County. The 2018 survey illustrates a complex hydrologic network of seasonal drainages and springs vital to this arid region, including Findman Spring and Gillam Spring in the northern reaches. These water sources have historically served as critical waypoints in the Great Basin, connected here by the path of Chester Rd and the county route C R 34.
