The Rio Chama valley north of Espanola is the primary geographic focus of this 2011 survey, where the river meets the Rio Ojo Caliente and the Rio del Oso. The small settlement of Chili and the neighboring community of La Chuachia sit at this significant hydraulic junction, surrounded by a complex system of drainage channels including Arroyo del Palacio and Arroyo de la Presa.

Industrial activity is a defining characteristic of the landscape, marked by numerous extraction sites such as the Santa Clara Pumice Pit 1, the Rhodes Diatomite Pit, and the Cupar Mine. The southern portion of the quadrangle is occupied by the Santa Clara Indian Reservation, where local infrastructure is represented by Indian Service Route 514 and Indian Service Route 603. This map captures a transition from the riparian corridors to the high ground of Clara Peak and Cerro Roman.
