The confluence of the Rio Ojo Caliente and the Rio Chama anchors the eastern edge of this Rio Arriba County landscape. In this 2017 survey, the valley floor is a patchwork of small communities like Chili, La Chuachia, El Duende, and Hernandez, where irrigation features like the Chili Ditch support settlement along the river corridor. To the west, the terrain rises sharply into the Santa Fe National Forest, dominated by high points such as Clara Peak and Cerro Roman.

Drainage systems including Rio del Oso and La Cañada del Almagre carve through the mesa country, leading down toward the primary river valleys. In the southern portion of the map, the Santa Clara Indian Reservation Rd and Indian Svc Rte 603 mark the infrastructure serving tribal lands.
