Grass Valley and the western slopes of the Sonoma Range dominate this 2015 survey of the Nevada interior. The landscape is defined by the sharp transition between the alluvial floor of the Great Basin and the steep elevations to the east, where seasonal drainage is marked by features like Clearwater Canyon and Grand Trunk Canyon. Clear Cr flows from these highlands toward the valley floor, providing a vital water source for the Clear Creek Ranch. This area remains largely defined by its ranching heritage and rural infrastructure, seen in the network of named local routes such as Sheep Ranch Rd, Anthony Rd, and George Rd. The eastern boundary of the quadrangle follows the Pershing Co Humboldt Co line, tracing the high ridges of the mountains near Grand Trunk Spring.
