Cobalt lies at the junction of Panther Creek Rd and Deep Creek Rd, serving as a focal point within the high-elevation terrain of the Salmon National Forest. This 2017 survey details a landscape defined by prominent ridges and peaks, most notably Swan Peak and Leacock Point. The drainage network is dense, with Panther Creek receiving numerous tributaries such as Fawn Creek and Spring Creek. A significant historical transportation corridor, the Thunder Mountain Historic Ridge Road to Iron Lake, traverses the southeastern corner of the quadrangle. The map also illustrates the modern infrastructure of forest management, including Nat For Dev Rd 100 and Travel Map 338, which provide access through the complex topography of Deep Creek Ridge and Pepper Creek Ridge.
