Collins Butte serves as a prominent landmark in this section of the Umatilla National Forest, where the high-altitude landscape is defined by a series of ridges and deep drainages. The area is marked by numerous water sources critical for the local ecosystem and historical land use, including Long Prairie Reservoir and Aspen Reservoir. The terrain transitions from the elevations of High Spring Ridge and Sourdough Ridge into recessed areas such as Devils Den and Dixon Basin.
