Comins serves as the central hub of this northern Michigan landscape, situated where the Montmorency Co Oscoda Co line divides the township grids. The terrain is defined by a complex glacial hydrology, featuring numerous isolated basins such as Whitabee Lake, McCreedie Lake, and the cluster of Little Bass Lake and Bass Lake to the east. These water bodies, along with the headwaters of Gilchrist Cr and Boiling Spring Cr, dominate the geography north of the Huron National Forest boundary.
