Ochoco National Forest defines the eastern and southern portions of this landscape, where the high-desert terrain of Crook County is marked by a complex network of seasonal creeks and vital water sources. The namesake Conant Basin lies just below Juniper Point, while the northern slopes of the Maury Mountains dominate the western edge. This area is characterized by its reliance on widely scattered springs, such as Sunny Slope Springs and Bobcat Spring, which historically supported the ranching and timber interests in these high-elevation basins.
