Shootaring Mine and Del Mont Mine anchor the southern and eastern stretches of this 2011 survey, reflecting the industrial history of this arid Garfield County landscape. The topography is defined by the Copper Creek Benches, a series of plateaus dissected by an intricate drainage system including Hansen Creek, Shitamaring Creek, and Milk Creek. This network of washes and canyons flows toward the southeast, eventually leading toward the Lost Spring Wash.

High points such as Johns Knoll and Ghost Ridge provide orientation across the high desert, where water remains the primary driver of name and place. Numerous seasonal water sources are documented, from Indian Spring and Papoose Spring in the northwest to the Milk Creek Reservoir. Remote access is facilitated by the Burr Trl and various unpaved routes leading toward the Star Springs Campground near the convergence of Star Creek and Gold Creek.
