Gila National Forest encompasses the high country of Grant County, where the topography is defined by sharp elevation changes and a sophisticated network of water management features. The landscape transitions from the heights of Copperas Peak and Buck Hannen Mtn down into the sheltered Trout Valley. Water is the lifeblood of this arid terrain, evidenced by the numerous tanks such as Jordon Tank, Thirtytwo Tank, and Gila-Flat Tank scattered across the northern reaches.
