Cornish sits at the junction of several rural routes in a landscape defined by seasonal watercourses and prairie ranching. The small settlement remains centered around the intersection of County Rd 69 and County Rd 74, where it is bordered to the south by the meandering path of Crow Creek. This northeastern Colorado terrain is marked by significant intermittent drainage patterns, including Coal Creek and the divergent branches of Sand Creek and Little Sand Creek.
