About this map

Island Falls and the settlement of Crystal anchor this late-1980s landscape in southern Aroostook County, defined by a complex network of streams and expansive wetlands. The terrain is marked by significant hydrological features, including the W Br Mattawamkeag River in the northeast and the large Thousand Acre Bog to the west. Central to the map is the elevated Golden Ridge, which stands between the drainages of Caldwell Brook and Cold Brook.
