Mogollon Rim anchors the northern boundary of this high-altitude landscape, where the plateau drops into a complex network of canyons and mesas. The drainage pattern is dominated by the East Verde River and the winding course of Wet Bottom Creek, which carves through Bull Spring Canyon toward the southern reaches of Midnight Mesa. This 2011 survey captures a sparsely settled region defined by its water sources, with numerous named springs such as Childers Spring, Bullfrog Spring, and Chalk Spring providing vital points of reference in the arid terrain.
