Lost Trail National Wildlife Refuge occupies the central valley of this map, surrounding the waters of Dahl Lake. This area of Northwest Montana is defined by the intersection of the Kootenai National Forest and Flathead National Forest, creating a managed timber and wildlife corridor. The small settlement at Pleasant Valley sits along the Pleasant Valley Rd, which follows the drainage of Pleasant Valley Cr through the mountain passes. The landscape is deeply etched by a network of seasonal streams including Squaw Meadows Cr, Elbow Cr, and Coniff Cr, with Lemonade Spring providing a specific landmark in the northern sections. This 2017 survey shows the modern extent of the refuge and the logging road infrastructure that crisscrosses the forest boundaries between Lincoln and Flathead counties.
