Lolo National Forest dominates this mountain landscape along the border of Sanders and Mineral Counties. The area is defined by the high peaks of the CC Divide, including Mount Bushnell and Cameron Peak, which drop down into deep drainages like Twelvemile Creek and Henderson Creek. At the southern edge of the survey, the small settlement of De Borgia sits near the St Regis River, where the Old Railroad Grade follows the valley floor.

Evidence of the region's mining history is scattered across the slopes of Brooks Mountain, with labels for the Texas Mine, Valentine Mine, and Rock Island Mine north of the river. These sites, reached via a network of steep trails, highlight the extractive industry that once drove local growth in this portion of the Lolo NF. Transportation across the ridges was facilitated by remote points such as Joan Creek Pass and Knox Pass.
