Lake Murray dominates the eastern reaches of this Saluda County landscape, its sprawling shoreline reaching into the drainage basins of the Little Saluda River and Big Creek. The terrain is defined by its rural character and a network of secondary roads such as Old Cherokee Trl and SC-194, which connect scattered crossroads settlements like Denny and Hickory Grove. At Mount Willing in the south, the landscape transitions from the river valley toward the higher ground near the Columbia Hwy.
