Lake Elwell dominates this northern Montana landscape, its broad waters filling the valley floor and reaching into various drainage channels. The rugged topography of Toole County is defined by steep ravines such as Marsh Coulee, Hoffman Coulee, and the prominently named Dead Indian Coulee. These features represent the erosion patterns typical of the high plains north of the Marias River.
