About this map

Goshen Hole Rim defines the dramatic geological character of this area on the border of Platte and Goshen Counties. The escarpment separates the elevated plateau of Slater Flats from the lower basin, where Dickinson Hill stands as a prominent landmark. In the early 1960s, this landscape was characterized by a rural ranching economy and infrastructure, including a prominent pipeline and a Pumping Sta. Water sources were critical to life here, evidenced by several named points such as Forney Springs, Mud Springs, and various other springs along the base of the rim. Small-scale operations like a Gravel Pit and scattered residential markers such as Baker Ranch and Swan show the thin but persistent footprint of human activity in this corner of the Wyoming high plains.
