The San Rafael River flows through the northern reaches of this Emery County landscape, carving through the Black Box canyon as it moves toward the east. This 1970s-era topography reveals a stark, arid environment dominated by vast upland levels such as Jackass Flat, Jerrys Flat, and Rattlesnake Flat. The name of the quadrangle is drawn from Drowned Hole Draw, a drainage that cuts through the center of the sheet toward the river valley.
