The Niobrara River winds through the northern portion of this Nebraska landscape, defining the boundary between Boyd and Holt Counties. This region is characterized by a sparse network of section-line roads and scattered agricultural developments centered around the small settlement of Dustin. The river valley features distinctive landmarks such as Grand Rapids Island and the Grand Rapids Bridge, while the surrounding tablelands are punctuated by man-made water features including Allyn Reservoir and Weller Reservoir. To the south, the settlement of Cleveland is marked primarily by the Cleveland Cem, a key site for local genealogical research. The drainage patterns of Big Sandy Cr and Beaver Cr provide a look at the hydrological layout of this rural plains environment as it stood in the early 21st century.
