About this map

The Funeral Mountains dominate this high-desert landscape where the border between Inyo County, California, and Nye County, Nevada, cuts a diagonal line through the arid terrain. Much of the western half of the map is preserved within Death Valley National Park, a region characterized by its extreme elevation changes as it transitions from the lower Death Valley basin toward the heights of the range. The Chloride Cliff Rd provides a singular point of access in the northwest, winding through the rugged topography that defines the borderlands between the Mojave Desert and the Amargosa Desert. This 2018 survey illustrates the vast, undeveloped nature of this protected wilderness, highlighting the complex land surveying grids that govern this remote section of the American West.
