The Funeral Mountains dominate this arid landscape, straddling the border between Nevada and California. This 1988 survey captures a transition point between the rugged high ground of Death Valley National Monument and the lower reaches of the Amargosa Desert. Throughout the mountains, several sites marked simply as Prospects suggest a history of mineral exploration in the remote canyons and ridges. The map meticulously tracks the National Monument Boundary as it winds through the peaks, providing a clear record of land management and surveying at the close of the 1980s. A network of 4wd tracks offers the only passage through this unforgiving terrain, illustrating the isolation of the area near the Inyo and Nye county lines.
