The Coteau des Prairies upland dominates this southwestern Minnesota landscape, providing the elevation from which numerous watercourses descend toward the Rock River. In this 2019 survey, the grid of section lines and township roads remains the primary organizational force of the region, connecting the rural centers of Edgerton, Hardwick, and Trosky. The hydrology of the area is well-defined by several tributaries, including Poplar Cr, Mound Cr, and Chanarambie Cr, which cut through the agricultural terrain.
