Eldon and the eastern edge of the Olympic Mountains meet the waters of the Hood Canal in this 2023 survey. Much of the western terrain is protected within the Olympic National Forest, where a network of forest development roads, such as Natl Forest Develop Road 24 RD, provides access to high-elevation water bodies like Elk Lake and Stetson Lake. The drainage systems here are well-defined, with the Hamma Hamma River and its various tributaries, including the North Fork John Creek and South Fork John Creek, cutting through the steep topography toward the shoreline.
