Coteau des Prairies defines the physical character of this northeastern South Dakota landscape, where glacial activity left behind a high plateau dotted with numerous basins and water bodies. The eastern portion of Enemy Swim Lake dominates the western edge of the sheet, while Owl Lake and Hurricane Lake sit further east, illustrating the complex hydrography of the region. The boundary between Day and Roberts counties bisects the area vertically, following a grid of section lines and gravel roads such as 448th Ave. Residential development is clustered primarily along the eastern shore of Enemy Swim Lake via N East Lake Dr and E Lake Dr, contrasting with the more dispersed agricultural layout found near Oak Island and the surrounding prairie highlands.
