Cherry Creek lies at the eastern foot of the Cherry Creek Range, a community established in a landscape defined by sharp mountain passes and vital water sources. The map highlights the high-elevation terrain of White Pine County, where Overland Summit and Cherry Creek Summit provide passage through the rugged interior. Geologic and industrial interests are centered around Lead Mine Canyon and the prominent heights of Wide West Peak and Bull Hill. Water, the most precious resource in this arid environment, is marked by numerous vital points including Exchequer Spring, Carlson Spring, and John Salvis Hot Spring. The topography transitions from the steep canyons of the range down into the broad expanse of Steptoe Valley to the southeast and Butte Valley to the northwest, illustrating the classic basin-and-range geography of Nevada.
