Factory Butte dominates this high-desert landscape in Emery County, rising prominently above the Upper Blue Hills and surrounding badlands. The terrain is defined by dramatic geological features, including the stark North Caineville Reef and the expansive North Caineville Mesa to the south. This area, largely characterized by its complex drainage network, is dissected by numerous seasonal waterways such as Salt Wash, Neilson Wash, and Coal Mine Wash. Transport through this arid corridor relies on several established routes, most notably the path from Moab to Boulder Town, which skirts the eastern edges of the butte. To the west, the Moroni Slopes transition into high plateaus like Wood Bench, illustrating the distinct erosion patterns of the San Rafael Swell region.
