About this map

Figurehead Mountain and the surrounding peaks of the Klamath Mountains define this high-elevation wilderness on the Oregon-California border. The landscape is carved by the complex drainage systems of the Middle Fork Applegate River and the various forks of Fort Goff Cr, creating a network of ridges and basins. Evidence of human activity is primarily limited to isolated backcountry outposts such as Baileys Cabin and established campsites like Bear Wallow Camp, Sugar Pine Camp, and Big Camp. These locations reflect the area's utility for forestry and recreation within the national forest system. High-altitude landmarks such as Azalea Lake, Snake Lake, and Lonesome Lake are situated in glacial cirques or basins, while prominent summits like Pyramid Peak, Jackson Peak, and Buck Peak provide significant navigational markers. A system of forest routes, including Forest Rte 19n01, provides the only vehicular access through this steep terrain, connecting these remote glades and meadows.
