About this map

Stillwater Marsh dominates the northern reaches of this Churchill County landscape, part of a complex wetland system where water is managed through a network of diversions. The reliance on irrigation and drainage is evident in the presence of the Lead Lake Canal, W Canal, and the Hunter Drain, which channel water across the flats to support areas like West Pasture and East Pasture. Numerous distinct bodies of water including Foxtail Lake, Cattail Lake, and Tule Lake reflect a terrain defined by seasonal fluctuations and alkali deposits, particularly at East Alkali Lake Number One. To the south, the topography shifts abruptly from the marshy lowlands into the rising slopes of the Stillwater Range, marked by deep drainages such as Mountain Well Canyon, Mud Hole Canyon, and Sheep Canyon. This transition from the Stillwater Point Reservoir to the high ridges of Stillwater Point illustrates the stark contrast between Nevada's managed water basins and its arid uplands.
