1981 Map of Freedhem

USGS Topo · Published 1982

About this map

Freedhem serves as the primary community node in this central Minnesota landscape, situated at the intersection of rural townships including Ripley, Platte, Belle Prairie, and Buh. The map reveals a transition from the agricultural and timbered uplands of the north to the more complex water systems in the south. The Platte River meanders through the eastern portion of the quadrangle, joined by a network of drainage including Big Mink Creek and Mink Creek. This area's industrial history is evidenced by several Gravel Pits and Quarries located in the southern sections, while the presence of the Freedhem Cem and a second Cem nearby provides clear markers for genealogical research. The terrain is characterized by numerous unnamed depressions and a large Swamp area near Black Brook in the north, illustrating the wet prairie and forest character of Morrison County.
