Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge dominates the eastern landscape of this 1967 survey, where a complex network of irrigation infrastructure supported both waterfowl habitat and local agriculture. The Monte Vista Canal, Grande and Piedra Valley Canal, and Main Terrace Canal trace the edge of the valley, while the Refuge Hdqrs is situated near several flowing wells.

Transitioning into the higher elevations to the west, the terrain is marked by seasonal drainages such as Fulcher Gulch and Cat Creek. These upland areas reveal a different history of land use, evidenced by the presence of Goat Ranch, a Cem, and a Prospect located near the headwaters of the gulch. A series of numbered routes, including Eightmile Road South and Twelvemile Road South, cross the transition between the valley floor and the rising slopes of The Canyon.
