Lake Superior dominates the eastern half of this Keweenaw Peninsula landscape, defining the character of the small coastal settlements and remote roads documented in 2011. The village of Gay sits at the junction of the Gay Lake Linden Rd and Gay Lac Belle Rd, positioned near the mouth of the Tobacco River. Further south, the community of Traverse Bay lines the western shore of Grand Traverse Bay, where the Traverse River meets the lake.
