Bald Butte rises above a network of drainages in Fergus County, providing a high-point orientation for this section of Montana's high plains. The landscape is defined by the diverging paths of North Fork Cutbank Creek and South Fork Cutbank Creek, which carve winding routes across the quadrangle. In the southern reach, the terrain transitions into the narrow channel of Deadman Coulee and the headwaters of Rose Creek.
