Givens Hot Springs and the surrounding Owyhee County landscape are defined by the winding course of the Snake River, which creates a complex network of islands and historical river crossings. This 2010 survey documents a transition between riparian environments and the irrigated highlands to the north and east. The river's influence is clear through a series of named islands including Foglers Island, Blackburn Island, and Dredge Island, while the legacy of early transportation is preserved in the locations of Warm Springs Ferry and Bernard Ferry.
