Goodyears Bar and Indian Valley represent a landscape defined by Sierra Nevada gold-country topography and deep river canyons. This 2022 survey documents a network of historical mining sites and timber access points, including the small settlements of Scales and Saint Joe Bar. The rugged terrain is carved by the North Yuba River and its numerous tributaries like Fiddle Creek and Canyon Creek, which flow through prominent features such as Devils Canyon. Genealogical and historical interest is concentrated in the small hillside cemeteries, specifically Scales Cemetery, Eureka Cemetery, and Goodyears Bar Cemetery, which serve as quiet markers of the region's pioneering past. Extensive trail systems, such as the North Yuba Trail and Fiddle Creek Ridge Trail, traverse the high ridges of the Tahoe National Forest and Plumas National Forest.
