About this map

Granite Spring and Henry Spring provide rare water sources in this arid stretch of the Mojave Desert within San Bernardino County. The landscape is dominated by volcanic history, most notably the extensive Cinder Cone Beds and various Lava flows that define the southern terrain. Human activity in the early 1980s was primarily limited to resource exploration and livestock management, evidenced by several Prospects and a Corral located near the springs. Elevations range from the high points of Sawtooth and Club Peak down into the broad Wash systems that channel seasonal runoff across the desert floor. This 1983 provisional survey offers a clear view of a largely uninhabited wilderness where geological features like volcanic cones and peaks are the primary landmarks.
