1898 Map of Greylock

USGS Topo · Published 1913

About this map

Mt. Greylock dominates the center of this 1885 survey, standing as the highest point among the summits of the Hoosac Range. The industrial and transportation patterns of late nineteenth-century Berkshire County are etched into the valleys, most notably where the Fitchburg R. R. and the Hoosac Tunnel pierce the eastern ridges. Along the Hoosic River, the growing hub of North Adams is surrounded by manufacturing settlements like Blackinton and Braytonville, while the Pittsfield and North Adams Electric RR connects these centers to the more agricultural southern reaches.
