About this map

Hagen Gap and the distinctive summit of Lambs Butte anchor this Garfield County terrain, where a complex network of coulees and basins defines the local geography. The landscape is characterized by a high density of water storage features, including Burgess Reservoir, Cottonwood Reservoir, and the appropriately named Gumbo Reservoir, reflecting the necessity of water management in this arid stretch of Montana. These reservoirs are fed by ephemeral drainages such as Woody Creek and East Fork Woody Creek. The mapping reveals a land shaped by erosional features with descriptive local names like Coal Slack Coulee, Seven Tree Coulee, and Christmas Coulee, providing a clear view of the ranching and drainage patterns across T19N and T20N. Only one significant road, Burgess Rd, transits the northern portion of the quadrangle.
