Hamar sits at a crossroads in the central portion of this prairie landscape, where the local road network of Hamar Rd and 30th St NE connects the small settlement to the surrounding agricultural lands. The terrain is defined by its glacial hydrology, featuring numerous water bodies such as Black Slough and Battle Lake to the west. The southern portion of the quadrangle is dominated by the winding path of the Sheyenne River, which carves a distinct valley through the plains. Along this corridor, the river is joined by the southern-flowing Coluin Creek, while Bakstad Lake sits near the southwestern corner. This 2011 survey captures the area's mix of natural prairie wetlands and systematic section-line road development, including modern routes like 95th St NE and 96th Ave NE.
