Hansboro sits at the western edge of this prairie landscape, situated just south of the international boundary line between Canada and the United States. This 2014 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey details the township and range grid system of Towner County, where agricultural sections are defined by a network of local routes including 62nd Ave NE and Co Road 4804. The terrain is characterized by numerous small prairie potholes and significant drainage features, most notably Hidden Island Coulee in the northwest and Mauvais Coulee in the southeast. These coulees, along with Pound Lake and Moore Lake, illustrate the seasonal water flow patterns across the North Dakota plains, showing how the natural hydrology interacts with the strictly ordered road grid of the region.
