Salome sits at the northern edge of this arid landscape where the McMullen Valley meets the high ground of the Harquahala Mountains. This 2014 survey documents a region defined by dramatic geological features, including the notable Natural Arch The Needle and a second Natural Arch located to its southeast. The desert floor is bisected by Harquahala Rd and Salome Rd, which serve as the primary conduits through the basin. To the west, the Little Harquahala Mountains rise sharply, while the southern reaches are dominated by Martin Peak. Near the junction of the valleys, the Harrisburg Cem remains as a poignant marker of the area's early settlement history. The map also captures distinctive local landmarks such as Sore Fingers and the Sore Finger formation, illustrating the varied topography of this section of La Paz County.
