Hartshorn sits at a crossroads in the Missouri Ozarks, marking a transition point between the rugged drainages of the Salem Plateau and the fertile bottoms of Casto Valley. The landscape is deeply carved by a network of hollows, many bearing names that reflect local heritage and terrain features, such as Rebel Cave Hollow, Bee Rock Hollow, and Huldy Hollow. These narrow valleys feed into larger waterways like Big Cr and the S Fork Black Valley Cr, which define the drainage patterns across the Texas and Shannon County line.
