Havana anchors the upper-left corner of this mid-1950s survey, situated along the Great Northern railroad line. The settlement serves as a primary hub for this agrarian pocket of the northern plains, featuring Williamson Park and the nearby Havana Cem. The landscape is defined by its transition across state and county lines, as the map records the border between Sargent and Marshall counties and the state line between North Dakota and South Dakota.

Educational and cultural landmarks are scattered throughout the rural landscape, including School No 4 and School No 3, which supported the surrounding farmstead communities. In the southeastern portion, the terrain becomes more varied around Marble Gulch and Trondhjem Cem. This survey was compiled using a combination of 1951 aerial photography and planetable fieldwork conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1953 and 1956.
