Oil City sits at the southern edge of this coastal landscape, marking a site of early twentieth-century petroleum speculation where the rainforest meets the shore. The terrain is defined by the steep rises of the Olympic Mountains and the dense drainage networks of Goodman Creek, Minter Cr, and Mosquito Cr. This survey illustrates a protected wilderness within Olympic National Park, where the long-distance Pacific NW National Scenic Trail winds along the bluffs and beaches. Along the interface with the Pacific Ocean, geological features like Hoh Head, Diamond Rock, and the Jefferson Oil Seep near Jefferson Cove highlight the unique maritime and geological character of this remote peninsula. The map captures a section of the coast where industrial history at Oil City has largely been reclaimed by the surrounding parkland.
