The Lochsa River winds through the heart of the Clearwater National Forest in this northern Idaho mountain landscape. This area is defined by its deep canyons and high ridges, anchored by Grave Peak and Bald Mtn. Historically significant routes traverse the terrain, most notably the Lolo Trl, which follows the high ground above Weitas Cr. Modern access is provided by US Hwy 12, which follows the river's path past the Ninemile Rest Area and Green Flat Campground. Remote mountain camps such as Indian Grave Camp and Greensward Camp serve as markers for backcountry travel. The survey details the complex network of drainage basins, including Holly Cr and Stanley Cr, that feed into the main river system below Castle Butte.
