About this map

Butter Creek flows through the center of this rural drainage system in Umatilla County, forming a central artery for the surrounding network of dry canyons and seasonal streams. The landscape is defined by its dramatic topographic relief, where numerous named canyons like Cunha Canyon, Paget Canyon, and the namesake Hoodlum Canyon converge toward the creek bed. To the south, Bear Claw Canyon and Fingers Canyon feed into the water system, while Johnson Creek cuts a path through the western portion of the quadrangle. The few established roads, such as Hisler Rd and Gurdane Rd, follow the high ridges and valley floors, tracing the natural contours of this high-desert terrain. This survey reflects the enduring cattle-country character of the region, where family-named landmarks such as Edwards Canyon and Frisco Canyon mark the territory.
