Calipatria sits at the western edge of this agricultural landscape in the Imperial Valley, where the desert transitions into a highly engineered system of irrigation. The terrain is defined by a dense grid of infrastructure, including the massive Highline Canal and the R Side Main Canal, which feed an extensive network of laterals and drains named alphabetically from S Lateral and R Lateral down through F Lateral. These waterworks facilitate farming across the valley floor, stopping abruptly at the rise of the East Mesa to the northeast.
